My Pilates Journey
Growing up, I was always very anxious, chronically overwhelmed, and suffered from migraines and body-image issues. I had an unhealthy relationship with my body that harmed my confidence and made me feel stuck. After graduating from college, I went on to work corporate jobs in New York City. While I enjoyed the work I did, my problems only got worse.
My wake-up call arrived at the age of 25 when I landed myself in the ER with an ulcer caused by too much stress combined with self-treating my migraines with ibuprofen. I realized then that I needed a lifestyle change and to get my stress and migraines under control. I turned to fitness, and started working out with a personal trainer.
One day at work, I noticed a small Pilates studio had moved in around the corner. I decided to try a class, and was immediately hooked. I awakened muscles I didn’t know existed, and left the first class feeling confident, calm, and excited–I couldn’t wait to go back!
Since that day, Pilates has completely changed my relationship with my body and exercise. It has strengthened me physically, emotionally, and mentally. My Pilates practice inspired me to seek out the help I need, leading to finding a therapist as well as a late-in-life diagnosis of chronic migraine and ADHD.
Pilates helps me to feel grounded and capable of tackling challenges both personally and professionally. It has completely changed my life. Fast forward to now: I am a certified Personal Trainer through NASM and a comprehensively certified Pilates teacher through Gramercy Pilates.
My goal through teaching is to help people find peace and confidence within their bodies through Pilates. More specifically, I want to evangelize Pilates to those who don’t yet know the impact that Pilates can have on their overall well-being.
With love,
Catherine
